Daylighting Dilemma
This is a great video showing how to solve the Daylighting Dilemma, which is how to have enough light when you need it and not too much light when you don’t need it.
Setting Glazing with a Crane
How you set glass when the glass units are too heavy to lift manually or in a location that can’t be reached through normal methods.
This project at the University of Wyoming, on the American Heritage Building in Laramie, WY, required the removal and replacement of roughly 10 large skylights along with several dozen smaller skylights. The skylights themselves consisted of roughly 10 units of glass that weighed between 300-450 pounds. The roof was being replaced at the same time as the skylights which required the building to be completely enclosed with scaffolding. This scaffolding actually hampered our ability to remove and replace the glass without damaging the new glass. The scaffolding blocked the easier access we’d have without it being in place.

Glass of the Future
Corning has developed an incredible product that is very durable and versatile
Check out this video that shows what we can and will be able to do with glass, now and in the future. I have been hearing that Corning has been working on this for a long time and this is the first I’ve seen of what this new product will be like. Velux had a glass darkening product at one time but it was too expensive and it took too long to darken. I am sure this product will make it’s way into the skylighting world soon!
Table Saw Safety
Keep your fingers on your hand, where they belong!
Okay, I know this doesn’t have much to do about skylights, but what a crazy demonstration!
A man shoves his finger into a table saw with a blade rotating at 5000 rpm. The blade stops in 5000th of a second at over 1000 g’s of force. Unbelievable.
There are over 60,000 saw blade accidents a year resulting in over 3000 digits being removed, which is over 10 per day. This saw would save a major disfigurement, medical bills, etc.
