Add a film to tempered glass to create a safer laminated glass
You can add a film to the exterior of tempered glass to create a laminated glass. Why, you ask? The scenario is you have a single tempered unit that is larger than 16 square feet and taller than 12′ off the ground. Tempered glass becomes unsafe if it breaks because of the volume and velocity of the broken glass falling. You could replace the glass or you could just add the film, creating a safer glass that will hold in place if it should happen to break.
