Normally skylights are damaged by debris carried in the wind or by not being fastened down properly. If you own a commercial building with flat roofs you should have someone walk the roof periodically (especially prior to the windy season, if you have one) looking for debris lying around on your roof. This could be HVAC parts and pieces, debris left by roofers, etc.
