New Translucent Canopy for The Village at Westerly Creek
The Housing Authority of the City of Aurora, CO owns and operates more than 680 rental units and is committed to providing safe, decent, affordable housing to the community. One of these locations is The Village at Westerly Creek. Building 1 was completed in 2012, and groundbreaking for Building 2 started in late 2013. Built for seniors and those with disabilities, the architect designed a translucent canopy over the entrance to provide ample lighting while protecting the occupants from harsh weather conditions.
Dealing with all things daylighting, Skylight Specialists was called in to provide the proper installation for a leak and maintenance free future. We provided and installed the 6 foot by 28 foot U-Lite Canopy manufactured by CPI Daylighting. The U-Lite Canopy system is a single layer polycarbonate glazing that is designed for open air use. It won’t yellow or fade with age or time, is highly impact resistant, and requires no maintenance. If a single panel should fail, it can easily be removed and replaced by itself, with minimal disruption to daily activities.
The steel structural supports were already installed by the general contractor, making for an easy and hassle free installation. Now the canopy is a pleasant architectural element, and provides some nice, diffuse lit shelter for guest entering or leaving the premises. And everyone appreciates being able to get in and out without getting soaked in the rain.
