Mall Skylight Inspection Survey

NewPark Mall in Newark, California, is the only enclosed shopping center in the tri-city area. Serving the Fremont area since 1980, it has undergone a series of ownership changes and improvements. With much of the 90s adornments now retired, this shopping center appears light and bright.

This shopping center features Burlington Coat Factory, Sears, Macy’s, and JC Penney as anchor stores.

An onsite skylight inspection was made on August 25^th 2011  by Skylight Specialists, Inc., represented by Rob Packard.

Skylights of concern were the older style glass ridge and glass polygon skylights.

Our Skylight Inspection  Found:

(14 ea.) Structural Glass Ridge Skylights, typical butt glazed, insulated units, no apparent issues. Sizes A. listed above.

1. (14 ea.) Structural Glass Ridge Skylights, glass has film applied to inside which is failing, single glazed tempered units do not meet current codes. Sizes B. listed above.
2. (3 ea.) Structural Glass Polygon Skylights, film on interior failing. Single glazed tempered units do not meet current codes.

Recommendations:

1. Replace (14) ridge skylights to eliminate gutter issues and single glazed/tempered/film glazing issues. Most of these are multiple skylights that will be replaced with one skylight.
2. Replace (3) polygon skylights to eliminate single glazed/tempered/film glazing issues.
