The Cluster Skylight Over the Hotel Atrium is Leaking and Several Domes are Cracked
The Embassy Suites Denver – Tech Center hotel in Centennial, Colorado, is located in the heart of the Denver Tech Center near business parks, retail centers and various local attractions
The atrium skylight on the hotel consists of 52 individual dome sets in a cluster skylight system. The hotel noticed several leaks coming from the skylights. The hotel engineering department examined the atrium skylight to determine the locations of the leaks. During the course of the investigation, they discovered cracks in a number of the domes. They then contacted us to provide a skylight repair.

Problem:
The problem with cluster skylight systems is that the internal weepage systems have to drain water to the perimeter in two opposing directions. This is difficult to do with any quantity of water. The gutters become overwhelmed with too much water (sometimes caused by dirt and debris). Unable to keep up with draining the volume of water reaching the gutters, They will ultimately leak into the interior. Unfortunately cluster systems require periodic maintenance to prevent too much water from entering the internal gutters.
Our Cluster Skylight Repair Included:
- Removing all existing sealants.
- Removing the existing cracked dome sets and installing new acrylic dome sets to match.
- Applied new structural sealant Dow coring 795.

- American Skylites Acrylic Dome Set Bronze/Clear 82″ x 82″ w/ 1.5″ flange
- Dow Corning 795 silicone structural sealant.
Results:
- Owners were happy their skylights stopped leaking and are up to date with no cracks.
- The hotel appreciated the fresh new look of the repaired skylights.
- The caulking was applied very neatly and is unnoticeable from the interior.
