Cherry Creek Mall and aging skylights.
Plans for the Mile High City’s first mall-type shopping center were originally conceived around the year 1925. Delayed by the depression, WWII, and zoning issues, the first operational store, a 3-level (92,600 square foot) Denver Dry Goods, commenced operation on October 8, 1953.
The mall went through expansion during the 1960s and then underwent a major re-development in the late ’80s to open as the new Cherry Creek Center on August 17, 1990. This skylight was probably installed during this stage.
Triangular cluster skylight replacement.
The cluster skylight is composed of 10 triangular and 20 rectangular dome sets.
The first step involves protection.
Scaffolding is used to create a temporary roof over the opening and poly sheeting was used to create “walls”. A safety zone was created inside the mall to protect customers and employees.
New curbs were needed.
Custom curbs were supplied by Wasco Skylights which is now a division of Velux Commercial.
